Iodine-What is Nascent Iodine?
"Iodine is a naturally occurring mineral found in seawater and soils. It is an essential trace element for life and is found in food and salt that the body requires. Iodine's main role in human biology is as a constituent of thyroid hormones. The thyroid gland actively absorbs iodide from the blood to make and release these hormones back into the blood. Thyroid hormones play a basic role in biology, acting to regulate metabolism. The total deficiency of thyroid hormones can reduce basal metabolic rate up to 50%, while an excessive production of thyroid hormones the basal metabolic rate can be increased by 100%."

Nascent Iodine is iodine as an atom rather than an ion or a molecule. In this state the iodine atom has a large energy potential that is released when the atom is used. It has a well recognized ability to fight infections in this state. The iodine atom is a paramagnetic atom and is subject to magnetic charging. When activated by adding to water, it is active for 2 to 3 hours. During this time it is readily available to be used by the body.
The Discovery
The discovery of a consumable form of nascent iodine is a very recent development. If your health care provider has never heard of consumable nascent iodine, that is not unexpected. Nascent iodine is well known in the scientific and medical communities, but not in a consumable form. There are at least three patents in the marketplace which reference using nascent Iodine in various ways, but not as a consumable product. Our patent, is the first and only patent for a consumable form of nascent iodine. These non-consumable forms of nascent iodine have very short lifespan and have very limited uses. One process produces nascent iodine in an electrolytic bath for coating pacemakers, catheters, and other devices that enter the human body. The nascent iodine is produced in the electrolytic bath and coats the device to completely sterilize it. The other two patents involve producing nascent iodine for transdermal application by mixing chemicals to produce nascent iodine. These are very short-lived, as well, in their process. They produce nascent iodine for application on the skin. Our product, Magnascent Iodine, is a consumable form of nascent iodine and is not produced chemically. It is produced electromagnetially. For this reason, our product has a long shelf life and can be taken internally to provide nascent iodine to the body. Over 100 years ago, those who worked with iodine were searching for a method for producing nascent iodine within the body, and they went to extreme measures to attempt this. (See below story of Nichols from Medica Materia, the story of Nichols). The history of our discovery and the patenting of our process began with a desire to help combat malaria in Southern Africa. In the year 2000, John Brookshire, an aerospace engineer with a passionate interest in holistic healing, met a missionary struggling with the devastating effects of malaria and the inability of current treatments to combat malaria. A search of holistic treatments from the 1930’s revealed a type of iodine used to treat various illnesses, including malaria. The exact formulation of this medicine from the 1930’s appears to have been lost as the parent manufacturing company was bought and sold many times within a few years. A second method for producing this iodine had been recommended at the time, but was far too costly and time-consuming to be produced in the depression era of the 30’s. With current technology and determination, the historical process was refined to produce a revolutionary new product. Through a series of "coincidences” or synchronicity, certain people came together with the right information which led to the discovery and implementation of Magnascent Iodine. In June of 2005, nascent iodine was produced for the first time since the 1930’s. The missionary and his family decided to try this iodine supplement and found it effective against malaria. They had already been using a non-nascent iodine supplement, an energized iodine which was somewhat effective in helping health situations in Africa. After the first use of this new iodine in the nascent state, the missionary excitedly reported, "This product is amazing! Just amazing!” That seemed to be the only word that he could use in describing our product. The only explanation for the outstanding effectivness of the 1% tincture of iodine is that the nascent state of iodine in consumable form had been achieved. This iodine supplement has been subsequently supplied for the missionary's health clinic and other clinics in the area to meet an iodine deficiency in that part of Zambia. The process for the discovery of a consumable form of nascent iodine was patented by John Brookshire to insure that this discovery would not be lost to mankind, as the process used in the 1930’s had been lost, when the discoverer of that version died without revealing the formulation.
Historical Perspective
"IODINE (U. S. P. "Iodum"). (See the textbooks for a detailed consideration of this drug.) The crystals are occasionally given in 1-10 gr. doses incorporated with some inert substance, as a triturate. The maximum dose is I gr. The tincture may be given internally in I to 5 drop doses, well diluted. Iodized sesame oil is given in doses of I to 3 fK in emulsion. It liberates its iodine slowly when ingested. The decolorized tincture, used internally, is absorbed without precipitation. The brown iodide of lime, originated by Nichols, is a loose combination of iodine and calcium oxide, and sets nascent iodine free when taken into the stomach. Give in doses of 1/4 to I gr. Spongia or burnt sponge (q. v.) is another available way for giving iodine.
There has been a good deal of dissatisfaction with the iodides when prompt results are desired, and iodine is coming more into use as an internal remedy. Either iodized lime or spongia may be used with assurance in nondiphtheritic croup or glandular troubles. The other preparations are available, but are more irritating."

This information written prior to 1900 indicates that efforts were underway to find a consumable form of nascent iodine even then. The product, which was used from 1926 to 1935 and produced by Dr. Sunkar A. Bisey, was recognized as Iodine in the nascent or “atomic” state but never truly accepted by the medical community. After his death in 1935, Sunkar Bisey’s company was sold and passed around until the product seems to have lost its effectiveness by the 1940’s. (See a magazine article about Sunkar A. Bisey in Articles )

Dr. Mark Sircus, (See his many Articles about Magnascent Iodine in our Resource Center)
Shield Bearer, Inc. has had a long relationship with Dr. Mark Sircus, providing him his first iodine in the nascent state, as well as providing him with many of the e-mails and stories that people have shared concerning their use of nascent iodine. His extensive writings are the first to describe how and why this iodine is so useful to the body.
